The Hawke's Bay Farming for Resilience pilot project is a collaboration with MPI, AgFirst and other local stakeholders and aims to help sheep and beef farmers in the region cope with the challenges of drought and climate variability.
The project produces monthly reports with data and analysis from local farms, covering aspects such as pasture growth, feed demand, production, and economic performance.
The reports use farm system modelling to reflect three of the region's common farm types: summer dry hill, summer safe hill, and finishing. The models are based on data from Hawke's Bay farms and validated by local specialists (including Alan Maxwell from BM Accounting).
The May report is at this link.
More information and previous reports can be found on the Hawke's Bay Regional Council Farmers Hub website, from the Hawke's Bay Rural Advisory group and from the On Farm Support team.
